Health and Safety Policy — Gardening Services Fulham

This document sets out the Health and Safety policy for our gardening operations. It applies to all staff, contractors and visitors involved with our garden maintenance, landscaping and groundskeeping work across the local service area. The policy is designed to protect people, property and the environment while delivering high quality garden services in Fulham. We recognise that good safety management is essential to sustaining a reliable gardening company and to minimising harm while carrying out routine and specialist tasks.

Our

policy objectives

are to prevent accidents, reduce occupational ill health, and to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and safe manner. Each project will have proportionate risk controls, clear responsibilities and communication lines so that the whole team understands safe systems of work. This overarching approach supports consistent standards across different types of work from soft landscaping to hedge cutting and lawn care, whether undertaken by a lone gardener or a small crew.

Scope and application

The policy covers routine maintenance, seasonal works, machinery operation and any subcontracted services provided by our Fulham gardening services teams. It includes on-site practices, transportation of equipment, storage of materials and safe interaction with members of the public on shared pathways. All activities must be planned and executed in line with risk assessments and site-specific arrangements, and personnel are expected to follow safe working procedures at all times.

Responsibility and roles are clearly defined. Management will ensure adequate resources, supervision and support; supervisors are responsible for implementing the policy day to day; and workers are required to carry out tasks safely and report hazards. The policy emphasises training, competence and ongoing assessment. Staff will receive induction, task-specific instruction and access to refresher training to maintain high standards of safety, particularly where specialist equipment such as powered brushcutters, chainsaws or stump grinders are used.

Worker wearing protective equipment using hedge trimmer Personal protective equipment (PPE) and tool control are core elements of our operational safety. PPE must be worn where identified as necessary, including eye protection, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, cut-resistant gloves and safety boots. Tools and machinery are inspected before use and defects are reported immediately. Where tools are hired in, the hiring procedures and checks are documented and replacements are arranged promptly to ensure no compromise of safety.

We maintain safe systems of work through written risk assessments, method statements and permit controls for higher risk operations. The use and storage of chemicals are managed carefully, with appropriate labeling and secure storage. Only trained personnel handle hazardous substances, and material safety data is available for all substances in use. Environmental protection principles are applied to prevent contamination of soils, watercourses and private properties while performing landscaping and garden waste management.

The policy requires that incident reporting and investigation procedures are simple and effective. All accidents, near misses and significant hazards are recorded, investigated and used to improve procedures. Lessons learned are shared with the wider team, and corrective actions are tracked to completion. Regular site inspections and toolbox talks are used to reinforce safe practices and to ensure teams are up to date with current expectations.

Supervisor delivering safety briefing to team For training and competence we adopt a blended approach: practical on-the-job training, supervised experience, and where appropriate, formal certification for specialist tasks. New staff are supervised until competence is demonstrated and documented. Continuous improvement is encouraged through performance reviews, refresher sessions and scenario-based briefings that reflect the diverse tasks undertaken by our gardeners.

Team finishing a safe and tidy garden job Monitoring, review and continuous improvement form an essential part of this Health and Safety policy. The policy is reviewed periodically and after any significant incident, change in activity or following changes to equipment or work methods. We set measurable targets for safety performance, including reductions in incident rates, timely completion of inspections and successful closure of audit actions. Management commitment is evidenced through regular management reviews and allocation of the necessary resources to meet the policy aims.

Communication is a vital component: safety information is made available to all staff through briefings, notices and written procedures. Workers are encouraged to report hazards and to contribute to the development of safer working practices. Supervisors lead daily briefings and risk awareness sessions to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities and the control measures in place for each job.

Emergency arrangements are in place and include clear procedures for dealing with injuries, fire and environmental incidents. First aid provisions are maintained and staff are aware of the steps to take if an emergency occurs. Access to medical assistance and emergency services is ensured as part of pre-work planning for sites across our service area, with contingency arrangements for remote or difficult-to-access locations.

Implementation of this policy will be achieved through committed leadership, competent staff, adequate resources and regular review. Our aim as a local gardening company is to deliver high quality Fulham gardening services while protecting workers, customers and the public. By embedding safety into everyday work and nurturing a culture of care and responsibility, we meet our ethical and operational obligations and provide reliable, safe garden services to the community.
